The Holdfast Hotel – Schnitty Report
Went to The Holdfast Hotel Friday night and had to have a schnitty.
Service – Pretty good. It was busy but the schnitty was fairly quick to arrive. Probably the highlight of the service is the waitresses, they are certainly whats known in the industry as “visually pleasing”. One of them even indulged in a bit of banter with us so they score a bonus point. 9/10.
Atmosphere – Very good. A bustling restaurant with a number of groups in so the place was buzzing. Also seems a popular place for the younger crowd to have a bite to eat before getting their groove on for the rest of the evening. 8/10.
Schnitty price – Pretty standard really, about $16 for a chicken schnitty (including sauce). Extra $2.50 for a parmy, so I made a tactical decision and went with the mushroom sauce. 7/10
Schnitty size – Probably only just bigger than a hand, so I was a little disappointed to begin with. However there was plenty of chips available (some of them inconveniently located under the schnitty), and they were very tasty. Schnitty was breast meat and very thick so by the time I was finished I was well satisfied. Interesting method with the salad – it was actually placed on top of the schnitty. This is highly unorthodox and left me feeling quite annoyed as I had to remove the offending items before pouring on the mushroom sauce. The mushroom sauce was fantastic, nice and creamy with big chunks of mushrooms (and plenty of them). 7/10
Scnitty taste – Very good. High quality meat, good chips and great sauce. I actually went to the bar after my meal and ordered a pint of mushroom sauce, so that should tell you something. 9/10
Overall rating – A great place to go for a relaxed dinner on a Friday night, if you go with the schnitty I feel that you will be pleased with yuor choice. The venue also has the added bonus of some excellent ’scenery’ whilst you eat which is crucial to your dining experience. 8/10
