The Jetty Bar – Steak Night
I decided I wanted a classy dining experience, so I popped into The Jetty Bar on Wednesday 20 January (Steak Night). I know what you’re thinking, and the answer is yes – I took my life in my hands and ate in the Front Bar.
Service 7/10
Pretty standard bar service really. Fairly sure the female bar staff were a bit hesitant to engage in small talk in case they were the victim of a ridiculous pick up line. Fortunately I managed to put a muzzle on my mate in time, so they emerged unscathed.
Atmosphere 7.5/10
An eclectic mix of hip young things (ourselves obviously), oldies looking for a cheap feed and the Jetty Bar specialty – 60+ old men smashed out of their brain (this is part of the package any night, not just steak night). All in all, a lively pub atmosphere.
Steak price 9.5/10
I dont think you could really complain about a steak for $9.50 in this day and age. I decided to lash out and pay an extra $1 to get mushroom sauce to bring the total to $10.50 – a bargain in anyones language.
Steak size 8.5/10
I was a little concerned about the potential to receive a miniature, poor quality steak at the price, however this proved unfounded. The steak was a little bigger than a hand, and was pretty thick – things were definitely looking up.
Steak taste 8.5/10
The steak was actually really good. I ordered it medium-rare and to my surprise it actually was cooked that way. Tasted great, nice and tender and not too much fat. Chips located off to the side which was good, but maybe there could have been a few more (this was slightly offset with the positive inclusion of a piece of bread – ideal for gravy mopping duties). I ordered vegies to go with it and was pretty disappointed with these to be honest – the carrot, cabbage and cucumber all tasted the same so that detracted from the experience a little. On the plus side, they receive a bonus point here as the paro old guy near us tried to strike up a conversation – however this was aborted as we were unable to distinguish a single word of his potentially riveting story.
Overall 8/10
It was a potential recipe for disaster, but The Jetty Bar have done very well here – a good steak at a great price in a (very) relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend getting down there for steak night, I feel you will be pleasantly surprised. FYI Schnitzel night is Tuesday – stay tuned for the review soon……
