The Tap Inn
As far as I know, The Tap Inn is the only golf themed pub in Australia. Normally “themed pub” means stay well away, but this is an exception. A huge amount of money was invested into the old Kent Town Hotel in Adelaide around 2001 to produce a pub with a great front bar, restaurant and indoor driving range. The Tuesday reggae night the old Kent Town used to host couldn’t be further away.
The front bar has highlights galore for the golfing enthusiast All beer taps have been replaced with old wood heads and carvings from each hole at Augusta National are set into the bar. Large imposing statues of famous golfers (Greg Norman, Annika Sorenstam and others) also take their place at different points on the bar. The pokies (if you really want to go near them) are set in a gophers hole and there’s plenty of pictures on the wall of famous courses.
The rooftop putting green and indoor driving range is what sets this place apart. The driving range has automatic tees that place the ball up ready for your next shot. In truth, it’s not a great driving range but there’s no better way to spend an afternoon than to go hit a bucket of balls and then grab a pint or two at the bar alongside. You’ll need to do things in that order though as you aren’t allowed on the driving range having consumed a large amount of alcohol.
Overall, for the golfing enthusiast the pub is a real gem and it needed to be with the amount of money that was spent on it. Pop in for a beer if you’re nearby.
