Winston’s Bar
We were having a work lunch for a colleague who was leaving, so we went to Winston’s Bar and had a schnitty.
Atmosphere: 5/10: The pub itself was rather quiet with only one other group being in the bar at the same time as us. We had a table booked for 15 and we were placed right in the middle of the main dining area. I think due to the fact that we booked for midday and on a Wednesday made it a bit quieter than it might normally be. The bar itself is well laid out and many of my dining party commented on the versatility of the bar and the fact the dining area doubled as a dance floor was noticed.
Staff: 7/10: The staff were very friendly. I booked via email and also sent a pre-order form via fax. Both were received and everything was delivered as expected. Due to it being so quiet we had no problem getting staff’s attention and they were more than willing to help.
Prices: 8/10: Pretty reasonably priced actually. The schnitzel was $14.90 and included your choice of sauce. The usual options available here; pepper, gravy, mush and Dianne. There was also the Parmi option however this did invoke an extra $1 charge. There was also a beer & burger deal for $10 available, however we didn’t know about this until we arrived. I think that The Winston’s Bar should have done some more advertising on this one as I’m sure some of our party would have had this if they’d known about it before hand.
Size: 7/10: Size of the schnitzel was about average with the chips being placed underneath the schnitzel. This is a bit of a trap for young players as they think they are getting more schnitzel for their buck, when really it’s just extra chips padding out the size. I frown upon this delivery technique, however despite this it was still a good size and perfect for a work lunch.
Taste: 7/10: Taste was also about right. The sauce was good with proper mushrooms being used here. I did hear some murmurings from others at the table that the pepper sauce wasn’t very good. Not sure how you can rate a pepper sauce however? I had a chicken schnitzel, good meat and good taste. Well worth the probably less than average cost of $14.90. You’d pay more for a same quality meal elsewhere. I also believe that the Parmi sauce included ham as well as cheese/sauce. I think this is pretty good considering the extra $1 cost. I will be trying the Parmi next time.
Chips: 8/10: Good old fashioned pub style chips. Not too many, pretty much just the right amount. I’ve mentioned earlier about the chip serving choice utilised at the Winston’s. Let us know what you think. Do you want your chips to the side or underneath your schnitzel?
Overall: 8/10: Overall I gave this meal an 8 of of 10. A pretty good plate of grub for the price. I think they have the same prices for lunch and dinner and a tasty and filling chicken schnitzel for under $15 these days is pretty good. Worth a visit.
